February 2nd - It was another packed house at this past week's Brandon Rotary luncheon. Guest speaker, Mike Hazen, took center stage to give the club the low down on drug testing employees, DNA recovery tactics and why having a drug free workplace is so important to safety, cutting costs and creating a better culture for employees. The club recommended a screening for Brian Solano after his team won the Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Buckhorn a couple of weeks ago. Those boys played like they weren't human!
The meeting kicked off with Fred offering a prayer, John Gardner taking a crack at the Four Way Test and Maria Lewis leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. A whopping 41 Rotarians, three guests and Special Guest Chris Myers all attended a jam-packed hour of all things Rotary. Special Guest Chris Myers  shared with the club that he has been a resident of Brandon all his life, opened his own A/C company in 2003 and is joining Rotary because he wants to give back to the community he lives and works in. We are excited to have Chris be a part of our club very soon and the energy and community impact he will bring!

Rotarian Bill Handley led off our Happy Dollars by letting us know that his wife may be collecting life insurance- he is participating in a Cross Country biathlon which consists of Cross Country Skiing and shooting.  He then is hiking four miles up a mountain to join his West Point buddies for a weekend reunion. Be safe, have fun and SHOOT STRAIGHT, Bill! Roger and Cade Rivard announced that Rivard Buick GMC will donate $500 for every car sale made to a club member, and the first for this year is Susan’s Thomason’s new car purchase.Maria Lewis gave a happy dollar as her stepdaughter announced she is having a baby boy. Congrats, Maria!
Our club is fortunate to have one of the best Sergeant At Arms ever, and Fred Schwabe has now set a personal record of four weeks in a row of nailing his joke to the club. The pressure for five is now on! Good luck, Fred!
Bob Solano won the opportunity for the 50/50 challenge and drew the five of hearts. No money, but that puts us one card closer to the jackpot!
Jeff Reynolds announced that the Brandon Rotary Club Charity Fund's scholarship application is on the website for graduating seniors to apply.
The deadline is Friday, April 15th. The club also welcomed back longtime Rotarian, Lee Elam, after his successful carotid artery surgery. Welcome back, Lee!
This week the Rotary Club of Brandon welcomes George Robertson-Burnett from the district. George is an awesome speaker. If you haven't heard him speak before, then you don't want to miss this week's meeting!
