Brandon Rotarians had some new digs this past week as they welcomed the club at Romano's Macaroni Grill for the next several months until the Rotary Event Center is completed. It was a packed house and agenda as Rotarians got an opportunity to vote for the distribution of dollars to the selected charities for the 2015-16 Rotary year. The club also welcomed guest speaker, Steve McCleary from the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Steve talked to the club about how the 501c3 non profit raises funds for college scholarships for the surviving children of fallen Special Operations Forces, family & educational counseling, including in-home tutoring, as well as advocacy support and immediate $3,000 financial grants to severely-wounded Special Operations Forces service members.
Club members also began signing up for our annual Installation Banquet for June 2nd at the Tampa Club. We will be inducting three new board members with John Gardner rejoining the board and Chris McGuire and Ryan Burley joining the board for the first time. We are excited about our goals for 2016-17 and to take our club to an even higher level!
Happy anniversary to Rocky and Jane Santa Cruz!
Our club will be having a great weekend as we embark on our annual fishing trip to Steinhatchee, Florida for four days of onshore and offshore fishing, a fish fry, and tons of Rotary fellowship. Those not attending will have an awesome Thursday at Stein and Vine for our monthly social. Should be a lot of fun!
This week's meeting will have Ruth Van Dyke, and we will announce our 2016 Scholarship recipients.
