Federal Prosecutor Andrew Warren visited the Rotary Club of Brandon this past week as a very distinguished guest speaker, and three nominated charities presented to the club about the great things they are doing in our community. The meeting portion was very short this week as the agenda was chock-full of speakers. Eleanor Saunders of the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) got things rolling discussing how ECHO is influencing our community with the over 14,000 people they served last year through their thrift shop and pantry. Eleanor discussed how their big project this year is one of an educational component assisting adults in getting their General Education Diploma.
Cheryl Hickman from the Women's Resource Center of Tampa was up next and used her time talking about the expansion of feeding the homeless in the Brandon area. With many children and single mothers sometimes living in cars and places less suitable for raising a family, the Women's Resource Center has partnered with a local church to provide shelter and a place for them to get back on their feet.
Maria Lewis spoke on behalf of the Senior Care Group Foundation and let the club know about all of the needs that they are in search of to impact the lives of those that they serve. The Senior Care Group Foundation provides skilled nursing, rehabilitation services and home health care to the senior population. All three charities did an outstanding job of letting us know about the reach of their organizations, their mission and goals for using the funds this year if selected.
After the charities were finished, the club got a special treat as Federal Prosecutor Andrew Warren gave a stellar presentation. It wasn't as stellar as Larry Fassett's introduction, but the club enjoyed it nonetheless! As a federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice, Mr. Warren specializes in complex, white-collar, criminal prosecution. During his seven years with the Justice Department, he has worked on several high profile investigations, including the successful prosecution of Allen Stanford and others for perpetrating an $8 billion Ponzi scheme. Mr. Warren also went into detail about being very diligent in researching any investment opportunity so you don't get taken advantage of.
On Tuesday, September 15th, Gulf Ridge Council Boys Scouts, Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, The Outreach Clinic and Family Promise of Brandon all present.
