A sea of golf carts carrying community leaders, business owners, Rotarians and supporters rolled in like a high tide this past Thursday, January 21st for the Rotary Club of Brandon's Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Buckhorn Springs Golf and Country Club. Over 120 golfers and wannabe links experts put work and worries aside to become charity-supporting super heroes for a day. The result was tens of thousands of dollars being raised for organizations impacting children, families, special needs individuals, senior citizens and tackling societal issues like homelessness, affordable healthcare, feeding the hungry and youth drowning prevention to name a few.
Event chairman and longtime Rotarian leader Troy Dimsdale did an outstanding job organizing his committee team of Steve Moran, Scott Carter, Maria Lewis and motivating the entire club. Hundreds and hundreds of children and families will be the beneficiaries of this awesome event. A special big thank you to Troy's Golf Tournament sidekick, Steve Moran, for his above and beyond help. This dynamic duo were the Rotary version of Batman and Robin - you decide who wore the cape and who put on the tights:)
Events like this don't just happen. A lot of work and support over a long period of time come together and culminate in a day of energy, community togetherness and fun. The Brandon Rotary Club and the community we serve give our sincere thanks and a big standing ovation to our corporate sponsors for the event. Thank you to Rivard Buick GMC, Colwill Engineering, Odiorne Insurance Agency, Vantage Benefit Solutions, Inc., Marshall Business Accounting, M.E. Wilson, Bank of Tampa, Infinity Lawn Care, Choice HR, Rath Harper & Associates, Bill Harper, Keller Williams and Brandon Regional Hospital. Our club also profusely thanks Bill Harper and his great staff team at the Buckhorn Golf and Country Club for their outstanding hospitality in helping us to put on such a great show.
There were some great competitions from the overall winners to the closest to the pin to longest drive to hole in one and finally the putting contest. While no one won the big Sierra Truck from Rivard Buick GMC, there were several putting pros and long drivers on hand. For those competing in the putting contest, they got a chance to win some money and a free comedy show put on by our very own Fred Schwabe who was in full on comedian mode. We just hope the golfers come back next year!
Thanks again to all Rotarians who supported this event by sponsoring, getting sponsors, selling foursomes, playing in the tournament, helping with set up and breakdown, taking pictures of the event, working the different contests, registration and overall promoting the event. It truly was a team effort, and a huge success!
